Is there a link between Leadership and Personality?
Many speakers like Stephen Covey, Brian Tracy and Anthony Robbins say that anyone can be leaders. However with everyone having differrent personalities, does that mean that leadership is independent of personality? In particular, I have been noticing lately that most leaders tend to have more extroverted personalities (just that natural desire to stand in front). So if indeed there is a link, do we then need to change our personality in order to become leaders?
There are certainly personalities which make people natural leaders, but leadership is a skill which anyone can learn, and it comes in many different styles. You can lead from the front standing in the front of a large group or lead from the back inspiring those you are leading to go on and do great things. If you want to be a leader you will need to find styles that you are comfortable with and that are effective with those you are trying to lead. A good or great leader uses a variety of leadership techniques and styles to motivate and inspire those they are leading. Good Luck!
